April One Monthly Goal

So, my quilt guild is having a paint chip challenge.  You draw a bag and in it is a paint hip with three colors.  You need to use those exact colors and one additional of your choosing.  I have completed my top, but don’t really like it (No, it is not the pineapples.  I like those).  I am hoping some quilting and a different color binding will make me like it more.

That brings me to the pineapples.  I want to do some free motion quilting that I have not watermark_2019-04-03-14-44-47.jpgdone before, so I am making some loud happy placements for my dining room.  I will use them to practice the quilting for my paint chip challenge quilt.

So for my One Monthly Goal, for April, I plan on having four completed placemats.  Hopefully by then I will feel comfortable quilting my paint chip challenge quilt.

I am using some fat quarters.  I love these.  They are so bright WaterMark_2019-04-03-14-45-11and happy.  It makes me smile.  I love the flamingos and pineapples.

One Monthly Goal for March…..No way…….yes way……

Even though I have not started my new job, my mind is certainly in a different state.  I have until April 8th.  I finally feel ike I am on vacation.  Not only did I finish my One Monthly Goal for March, but it is packaged and in the mail for my Star Wars loving nephew.  Even made a couple of star wars pillow cases (forgot the photo of these).

Originally I bought this fabric on clearance to make something to practice on.  It was odd.  A very square desigN.  The only way not to cut up all the design was to fussy cut each square, which I did.  It is an odd-looking quilt, but it is Star Wars.  For some odd reason, I put borders on the left and right, but not on the top and bottom.  Not sure what I was thinking there, or not thinking at all.

20190320_191727So, I did practice my quilting and I was very happy with how the quilting came out, so I figured it was at least worthy to give away, even though it is odd.  I used my “star” ruler and then made angle lines.  There is a lot of quilting in it, but I enjoyed using it and it looks pretty good.

I did have to wash this quilt prior to sending, it hung on the back of the couch with the binding half on for a couple of weeks, which means the dogs assumed it was for them.  Kept yelling at them, but I guess the rule is?  “If there is a blanket or anything that looks like a blanket it is ours to cuddle up in.”  So, I needed to de-dog it.  I thought I would not like it as much once washed, but I actually liked it more.  Interesting.

My One Monthly Goal – Top Finished!

I managed to complete my moon and stars top for my One Monthly Goal.  You may be wondering why I can it the Moon and Stars Quilt.  Well, my plan is to make the circles my moons and then quilt stars every where else.  I have glow in the dark thread.

I also plan on piecing the back with some “Universe Panels/fabric”.  I happily found out last night that some of it is glow in teh dark.  I like weird stuff.

Hoping it turns out the way I have in my head.  So far, so good.

My one monthly Monstrosity (I mean Goal)

So, this monstrosity has been hanging around on my design board for month.  I don’t want to take it off because I don’t want to have to figure it out all over again.  With all my personal drama, it has just sat there annoying me, ridiculing me.  I have been sewing, just not on this project.  I need to finish the top so I can get it off my design board.  God knows there are a zillion other started projects awaiting their turn to be ignored.

I have not participated in the One Monthly Goal in a couple of months.  Too much going on.  Now that I am unemployed, there is no reason I can not finish this.

The Hand Quilt Along and My One Monthly Goal

WaterMark_2018-10-28-20-46-25Honestly, I did not get much hand sewing/quilting done.  THe only thing I can truly take credit for is the binding on the back of this baby quilt.  I find the hand sewing on the back very relaxing.  It just so happens that this also Mo One monthly Goal Project. So to see all the fabulous project where people actually get stuff done, please visit all these lovely ladies who make way more progress than me on a regular basis.

I did manage to complete my One Monthly Goal Project.  Not the best photo, but I like the quilt.  It came out pretty good.  Simple but cute.  My manfriends sister is having a baby, so this will go to her.  I am also working on a dinosaur quilt for her, since that is her watermark_2018-10-28-20-37-26-1-e1540775539573.jpgtheme.  I pieced the back.  This was my second time attempting this.  It was supposed to have an orange piece at the bottom also, ut that did not go as planned.  It is still OK, just a little odd, but tolerable.

So, what lesson did I learn this time????? WHen you are hand binding and it is raining outside, do not forget to put the doggy door in, because the Moka Monster likes to stand in the rain and get muddy.  Then she runs in, down to the family room and jumps on me with her muddy paws, which means watermark_2018-10-26-23-57-13.jpgshe just jumped all over the quilt I was binding.  The things that came out of my mouth. I will not repeat here.   So, yes it has been washed.

Kellie – This has been hard.  I thought it was supposed to get better with time.  Not so much.  For me the image of her laying in the casket is stuck in my head.  I constantly see it.  That is not how I want to think of her.

I have not dreamt of her.  I finally had a dream last night that I remembered.  We were living in my Old condo and it was burning down.  Have no idea what that is supposed to mean.  She was not there.

This was the one time I remember Kellie having short hair.  She had such beautiful long hair.  If I remember correctly, the dog on the right was stuck in her bag (by Mom) when she went on her honey moon.  It was her favorite.  Happy Sewing, Happy Quilting, Love the ones you are with.

One Monthly Goal – October

For my One Monthly Goal, I am going to quilt and bind this baby quilt.  I have made this quilt for Kevin’s (man-friend) sister who’s  pregnant.  I kind of did my own thing.  I really liked the center baby pin fabric, so I did not want to cut it up too much.  I plan to use my heart ruler for this one.  Not sure of thread color, but it will likely be something multi colored.

Kellie, another story…

You may have seen this photo before.  But I need it to tell my Kellie story.  This is my lateFB_IMG_1503081791295 husband Derrick and Kellie.  We were in Las Vegas together because Derrick was in a Pool tournament.

So, when I married Derrick, Kellie was the only one in my family that did not have something negative to say about it.  Whether she liked it or not, she kept it to herself.  She was always kind to Derrick, which is more than I could say about anyone else in my family.  Yes, I met/knew him in an odd unconventional way, and yes he was younger than me.  But when my first husband took his own life and left me with 2 kids, he was the only one that stepped into a really ugly, messy situation and was willing to do whatever was needed. He was coming to town to visit his sister for the holidays.  He asked if he could stop by to check on me.

He never left.  He did not feel like he could.  Things just went from there.  I know Kellie and her husband, Matt, talked about it.  He told me when we were sitting in the hospital by Kellie’s side.  They decided if he made me happy (which he did) that was good enough for them.  This is just one of the many many reasons I can’t imagine life without her.  She stood by me, always.

Fainéant, yes I am..My Hand Quilt Along and One Monthly Goal

Fainéant, means slacker in French.  Yes, I am one.  I totally meant to do my Hand Quilt Along post before and schedule it, but no, that did not happen.  It has just been an insane week at my house.  Kids and sports, spent the weekend with my sister, just non stop.  So I apologize to all my fellow hand quilters for being a Fainéant.  I felt I used the word Slacker to much, so I figured I needed a new term.  I am adding one more block to my underWaterMark_2018-06-03-20-09-20 the sea collection.  This month we have a whale.  I do have to tell you, my last months post brought some criticism form some Facebook followers (my sister mostly).  She insisted that my seahorses were farting.  I tried to explain that it was meant to be swirls of water, but no, according to her it was pretty clear.  Farting Seahorses.  Now I WaterMark_2018-06-16-21-26-44look at my seahorses in a little different light.  Darn it.

Please visit all the lovely ladies in the hand quilt along that are not Fainéants.

So, for June my One Monthly goal was to complete the Star Wars  Quilt Top.  Mission Accomplished.  It needs some ironing, it kind looks all rumpled.  I think this will be a donation quilt.

One Monthly goal and a little “Side Sewing”

What do I mean by Side Sewing?  Sewing something not quilty.  I don’t do it often, but it does happen.  I like my little key chains.  Quick gift if you need one.  I used the Lazy Girl Tutorial.  I love her name, I am totally in synch with her name.  I am a lazy girl.  When I say that I don’t really mean lazy, but looking for a better faster way of doing things.  She made hers out of candy wrappers, which I will have to try.  I love reusing stuff.

So, For my One Monthly Goal, I am going to quilt and bind my “Starry Starry Night quilt. WaterMark_2018-02-26-13-45-16 I am going to attempt to use one of my new rulers.  We will see how that goes and if the plan changes.  Time will tell.

On a positive note, some things are looking up.  All the crapiness shall pass… and new crapiness shall take it’s place.  But different is sometimes good.  Sewing/Quilting is my drug of choice.  Pretty sure it keeps me from being going to jail.

So, on a happy note, I found these beautiful Robin Eggs in my landscaping.  Can’t wait to 20180430_201358see them hatch.  Pretty sure we skipped spring and went right to Summer though.  Very Confusing weather here in Ohio.

One Monthly Goal…It is truly a miracle

I am not sure how I managed to finish my One Monthly Goal, but I did.  This is the quilt WaterMark_2018-04-21-19-28-17top given to me by Nanette.  I love it.  I quilted dog bones, free-handed it.  That was a bit scary, but it came out all right.  I used a festive multi-watermark_2018-04-21-19-26-10.jpgcolor thread.  I love multi-color threads.  I don’t know why.  I am weird.

So, the back, come crazy dog fabric.  I had a friend give me whole bolt of this stuff.  It is sort of odd, not exactly fleece and not exactly flannel.  Just weird, but perfect for my dog quilt.  Yes, this is my dog quilt.  I have already used it while lounging on the couch.  Warm and cozy and extra special since the top was made by an extra special friend.  I have plan to make another quilt like this and donate to a dog rescue so they can hopefully raise some money.

Seems that family is on the mend.  Kev is getting better and my sister’s prognosis no longer seems as bleak as it once was.  A long way to go, but there is light.

My One Monthly Goal

So, for my one monthly goal, I am going to finish my hugs and kisses wall hanging, in entirety.  Thank you, Red Rooster Quilts, for giving this to me, block by block every two weeks.  I also need to thank them for allowing me to deposit my paycheck at their store every two weeks when I went to get my “free” quilt block.  I would love to see the statistics on their sales and see the benefits of this way to get more money from us quilters.  I don’t blame them, I love the shop.  I would imagine that people may have went more often and bought things they really did not need (not talking about myself, no I am not). I think of the 26 weeks, I only went three times and walked out with nothing, and that was likely due to being short on time.  And yes, should they do this again, I will fall prey to their clever marketing schemes.  Fortunately, or unfortunately, it is about a mile from where I work.  So, when the nerds start getting on my nerves, I must go to a happy place. $$$

So, last week-end, Lynn and I had our own Sew in. She brought this beautiful quilt she had done.  She had such awesome quilting.  I asked how she did.  She told me she traced her design on freezer paper, ironed it on and then follow along.  Sounded like something I needed to try, which is why you see the freezer paper all over my Hugs and Kisses quilt. Hoping it makes my quilting less scary. I had a picture on my phone, but some how bunches of my photo’s keep disappearing.
