The Hand Quilt Along and the Paint Chip Challenge

I Have nothing……ugh……

Way too many things going on for me. Last week I started the “new” job.  My mind was not on quilting.  It was on getting up at 6:00am and getting where I belonged.  Then there was the total exhausting from trying to learn how things worked there.  Came home, ate dinner , went bed, repeat.

So I apologize to all the ladies of the quilt along, I will get my act together.and hope to have something soon.  Please visit all these wonderful ladies;

The Paint Chip Challenge.

This is an event that my guild is putting on.  I paid $5.00 to draw a bag that contained a paint chip.  You must use the colors on the card you draw, all of them.  You can add a fourth color not on the card if you choose.  The project is due at the Christmas meeting where the top three divide all the money collected.  So, I had to get to work right away, because I have issues with deadlines, or at least quilting deadlines.  My colors aren’t bad, 20190328_132013but I struggled with what to do.  I felt I needed to do something simple in order to get it completed in time.  So, I chose this simple pattern from “Block” magazine.

Well, it is simple.  In my head, I thought I ould make it look good.  I uses my 4th color (the one I got to choose) as a print.

The print is paired with the royal blue, and light blue is the green columns.  I plan to use the tan as the binding.watermark_2019-03-28-13-18-50.jpg

I hate it!
The only thing that might save it is if I manage to do some amazing quilting.  Hahaha.  That is funny.  I will finish it, but I have little hope that I will tolerate it.

Ohhh Happy Day…and the Hand Quilt Along

I got annoyed with the scales on the fish on my last block and had to set it down.  The Octopus was much more fun anyway.  This is part of the someday under the sea quilt I have planned…..in my head…..

Please visit all the lovely ladies of the Hand Quilt along and see what they have been up to.  They never disappoint.

So, why happy day?…well, I got a job.  It has been 5 long months of me feeling sorry for myself, which does you help you get a job.  And…I got a job I wanted.

You would have thought that I would have spent 5 months off sewing up a storm, but I did not.  I did sew, but I did not get much accomplished, and I mostly ignored my blog.  Now I look back and feel stupid.  Kevin (AKA man friend),  never wavered.  He said I he always knew I would get another job.  He only wanted me to have one I liked, not one I took to pay the bills, like last time, and then I was miserable.  It is a good distance from home, but that is OK.

I am up to a 25 lb. weight loss, but am currently celebrating, so I don’t plan on losing anything this week.  Hopefully the weight loss plan will get back in swing with the new job.  Having a routine will make it easier for me.

It is birthday week at our house.  My oldest daughter had her birthday this past Thursday and my youngest (and my late husband Derrick) is on Tuesday.  We had a lovely birthday dinner , champagne chicken and red velvet cake.

I hope I am on my way back to myself.

Hand Quilt Along and One monthly Goal

I am still alive.  The weather in Ohio stinks.  Snowing again.  I am so over winter.

Not much progress on the hand quilt along, but there is a bit.  Thought I would get this one done while my daughter took her midterm yesterday, but that did not happen. Ended up talking to a friend on the phone instead.  Haley aced the midterm for medical terminology at Columbus State.  Got a 98%!  Woo hoo.  Not bad for a 14-year-old.  Sometimes, she is like her mother.  LOL

This is a block for my someday, under the sea quilt.  Hopefully, I will have more progress soon.  Please visit all the wonderful ladies and view their wonderful work.  They are awesome.

I missed out on the one Monthly Goal last month, so I need to get moving.  I am going to WaterMark_2018-06-16-21-26-44finish the Star Wars quilt.  Quilt and bind.  That is the plan.   I hope it finishes better than the photo.  Not to fond of it right now.  I plan on quilting stars with my ruler.  We will see what happens.

That is all she wrote (or did) for the HQA

Yep, three flowers is all I got completed for the Hand Quilt Along.  I guess it is better than nothing.  I also did some binding….so I guess my fingers are a bit sore.  I try to wear a thimble which is sometimes successful, but other times I find them annoying.

Here in central Ohio we have had Snowmageddon this past weekend.  Everyone was freaking out.  No parking at the grocery store (I heard) so I opted to go grocery shopping at midnight on the eve of Snowmageddon.  All I can say is, ridiculous.  Nothing on the shelves and I still stood in line for 20 minutes.  While we did get more snow than I am used to seeing here in central Ohio, compared to what I grew up with, it is nothing.  Please visit all the wonderful ladies participating in the Hand Quilt ALong and see their progress.

My Hand Quilt Along Progress

Yes, I have some progress.  I am equally surprised.  I have been making a bunch of these flowers.  I started to get bored making them, so I started to put them together.  I have a “Grandma’s Flower Garden” quilt from my grandmother.  Mine is quite a bit louder than hers.  My background is yellow, hers was white and very fragile these days.  They were very well used.  I remember them being on the beds at her house.  I loved how heavy they felt when I slept under them.

A Hand Quilt Along Miracle

I finally finished this runner for Kevin’s dresser.  It truly is a miracle.  This has been a good year in the making.  Funny thing, as I look at the photo, I realize that there is one extra row between the Ohio State dog bone and the black and pink dog bone.  I get that is what I get for winging it.  Never noticed it until I looked a the photo.

I actually even managed to quilt and bind this one (it is even on his dresser (finally).  I used a special ruler to quilt this one.  Why is it special?  I made my own dog bone ruler and it worked perfectly.  More on that later.  To see all the fabulous work by the rest of the ladies in the Hand quilt along please visit the following sites:

I’m still here … Hand quilt along and other stuff

I have missed you all.  Just have not been myself for a host of issues.

I have managed to do some sewing.  It helps me think and sort of work things out.  I finished my dinosaur quilt top.  It came out nicely.  It is for Kevin’s sister.  Her baby theme is dinosaurs.  I think it will be cure for a boy.

watermark_2018-11-18-13-10-04.jpgFor my Hand Quilt Along, I have finally picked back up my dog bone dresser scarf.  It is nearly finished.  I added the last dog bone, so hope to have it finished soon.  This is the lat one in the set of 4.  Please visit all the wonderful ladies in the Hand Quilt Along and check out what they have been up to.

The Hand Quilt Along and My One Monthly Goal

WaterMark_2018-10-28-20-46-25Honestly, I did not get much hand sewing/quilting done.  THe only thing I can truly take credit for is the binding on the back of this baby quilt.  I find the hand sewing on the back very relaxing.  It just so happens that this also Mo One monthly Goal Project. So to see all the fabulous project where people actually get stuff done, please visit all these lovely ladies who make way more progress than me on a regular basis.

I did manage to complete my One Monthly Goal Project.  Not the best photo, but I like the quilt.  It came out pretty good.  Simple but cute.  My manfriends sister is having a baby, so this will go to her.  I am also working on a dinosaur quilt for her, since that is her watermark_2018-10-28-20-37-26-1-e1540775539573.jpgtheme.  I pieced the back.  This was my second time attempting this.  It was supposed to have an orange piece at the bottom also, ut that did not go as planned.  It is still OK, just a little odd, but tolerable.

So, what lesson did I learn this time????? WHen you are hand binding and it is raining outside, do not forget to put the doggy door in, because the Moka Monster likes to stand in the rain and get muddy.  Then she runs in, down to the family room and jumps on me with her muddy paws, which means watermark_2018-10-26-23-57-13.jpgshe just jumped all over the quilt I was binding.  The things that came out of my mouth. I will not repeat here.   So, yes it has been washed.

Kellie – This has been hard.  I thought it was supposed to get better with time.  Not so much.  For me the image of her laying in the casket is stuck in my head.  I constantly see it.  That is not how I want to think of her.

I have not dreamt of her.  I finally had a dream last night that I remembered.  We were living in my Old condo and it was burning down.  Have no idea what that is supposed to mean.  She was not there.

This was the one time I remember Kellie having short hair.  She had such beautiful long hair.  If I remember correctly, the dog on the right was stuck in her bag (by Mom) when she went on her honey moon.  It was her favorite.  Happy Sewing, Happy Quilting, Love the ones you are with.

Hand Quilt Along

So, I have some hand quilting progress.  It is a great way to keep my hands busy and the mind sometimes.  Quilting and sewing are my therapy.  They are  helping me deal with the loss of my sister.  It gives me something else to think about.  This fish may be my favorite so far.  Although, the farting seahorse is a close second.  It was my dear sister Kellie who dubbed it the farting seahorse.  I may end up naming this quilt, the farting seahorse quilt, just for her.

Please visit all these wonderful women and see what they have been up to.

Kellie

You can tell Kellie had a sense of humor, I mean, really a farting seahorse?  Leave it tohHer.  I searched high and low for a picture from my wedding, but could not find it.  It would have made this story so very appropriate.

When I married my first husband, Jerry, all my sisters were in my wedding along with

Kellie and Mom

my long time friend Kim. I chose a sensible dress that could be ordered from J.C. Penny.  It was Jade in color.  I will never forget waiting at the church and in walks my older sister, Karen.  Kellie immediately broke out into song (Sesame Street).  “One of these things is not like the other one, not like the other one, not like the other one.”  Karen’s dress was a different dye lot.  It was much darker than everyone elses.  She was very upset.  I was just laughing.  Kellie proceeded to sing under her breath at the altar.  I miss her sense of humor.  I want to talk to her.

The other night for the first time in my life, I saw a shooting star.  I wished for a dream about Kellie where I could talk to her.  I am still waiting.

Another block for my under the sea quilt  I am getting a reasonable amount of them.  Before I know it I will have enough.  Hopefully, that will happen before I get bored with making these blocks.  Hard to tell with me.  I do tend to go from one thing to another.  Please visit all these wonderful ladies and look waht they have been making:

I have also managed to finish the quilting on the firefly quit.  I am currently working on the binding.  Kev’s (man friend) sister is pregnant, so I have designed a baby quilt for her.  I am nearly finished with that top.  Simple, bit away to showcase some cute fabric

Sister Update:

The news is devastating.  She now requires surgery as her bowels have quilt working. winter kellie She can not have the surgery because she would not survive it.  The outlook is bad.  Her husband texted me yesterday and told me to expect to need to come up later this week or next.  My heart is breaking.

This is my beautiful sister Kellie.  I call this winter Kellie because she is all snugged up in her winter coat.  She is  so beautiful.

I love you Kel.

I know you know that.
