It’s Done…..ugh…

Done, quilted and bound.  Just did a simple meander.  The thing that bothers me about the quilt is the dark brown.  It just looks wrong to me.  I have another quilt top I made and I have a similar project with it.  There is a color that looks all wrong in it.  I can’t be to blame for this one, I did not choose the fabrics.  I am sure someone will like it.   I have not even opened the other charity quilt.  I will get to that later.  I am trying to work on the Weiner dog quilt top.

The problem I am having is that I started it a while ago.  I wanted it to be big enough to 20200421_140325put on a twin big, so I started making it bigger, but I did not write down my notes or can not found where I wrote my notes.  So, I am spending a bit of time figuring out what I did, which is annoying.

I think it is a great way to use up scraps though.  It is cute and I am the crazy dog lady.

So, I am on a two-week furlough from work.  Hoping it is only 2 weeks.  Hard to tell right now.  I hope you are staying safe is this crazy world.

This was to be my One Monthly Goal, but since I have no idea what day it is, I will have to monitor my own goal.  Haha.  This should be quite a challenge for me.

My goal is to completely finish this quilt.  Quilt and bind.  Mostly, I want it finished so I don’t have to look at it anymore.  I feel like I need to apologize in advance to whoever is gifted this quilt.

I have one other charity kit that I have not even opened.  I am a little scared.  Could it be any worse?  I bet it could but hope it will not be.

Waiting to see what goes on in the world.  I am still employed!  Yeah!

What day is it?

So I had every intention of participating in One Monthly Goal.  However, I can not keep track of days or dates.  Here it is April 9, 2020, missed it!  I swear I may be losing my mind.  It is like time has stood still in my mind because nothing changes, yet it is actually continuing.

I might as well tell you what my goal was.  My intention for the One Monthly Goal was to complete the top for a charity quilt.  My quilt guild had about 35 kits ready to pass out at meetings, yet we are not having meetings, so they volunteered to drop them off.  I said I would do a couple, considering I needed some motivation to actually do something.

Don’t care for it one bit.  The dark brown bother me.  The instruction I had for this quilt were crazy.  They were all wrong and totally goofy.  I am not a good instruction follower in general, but since this was not my fabric and for charity, I thought I should actually read them and follow them.  WRONG.  They were wrong on most counts, what needed cut, the layout, everything.  It still needs borders and I am hoping that makes it look a little better, but I am not very hopeful.  I am hoping this is meant for a man.

Mostly working from home.  I am getting better at that.  I get up early before everyone else gets up so I can get as much done as possible before they arise.  They are pretty good at not bothering me though, with the exception of the dogs.  “Hey Mom us up, let’s all sit on her.”

My Moka refuses to Social Distance!

OMG Finish!

We certainly live in some crazy times.  Fortunately, I am still employed.  Actually, I still go to the office a couple of days a week.  There are not many of us, so we are a good distance apart.  Honda is considered an essential business.  I don’t mind.

I also missed the deadline to post my finish because I really have no idea what the date is or day of the week.  Everything runs together.   Maybe next month.

You would think that being trapped at home would mean more quilting.  But nooooooo.  I find it hard to get motivated.  Every time the news channel comes on I become glued to the TV.  Not sure why there is no good news.

My poor daughter had to spend her “Sweet Sixteen” in quarantine.

About the One monthly Goal Quilt …I love babies so sometimes I just make baby quilts for no reason.  The colors are a bit odd, but they do sort of go together.  No plans for this one.  It will go to the done stack.20200330_140931

For the quilting, I used my heart ruler.  It really took no time at all.

80 Blocks done

So, I have been working on these blocks a little at a time for quite some time. I used to refer to it as the “I am mad quilt”, mostly because this was a quilt where I could just sit down for a long period of time and work on. So, when I got frustrated I would often sit down and sew for a while.

All the blocks need trimmed, and then we will put them all together. I do have a few duplicates, but not many.

I hope you are all staying safe. I am still working, but am expecting some sort of Announcement soon regarding work from home. The kids are out of school, and were bored the same day. All the kids birthdays are next week, so no going to dinner. I was taking Haley and her friend to Niagra Falls for the weekend, but we will have to change that. She will be sixteen and I am already co cerned about what I will do when she leaves me.

One Monthly Goal…And we’re back

I have not done One Monthly Goal in a while.  Pretty sure it has been a year.  Sort of stopped doing a lot after my sister died.  I did not stop sewing or quilting, I just could not deal with deadlines.

I think it will help me get things done.  It always has in the past, so I am back.  My One Monthly Goal for March 2020 is to completely finish this baby quilt.  It is currently partially quilted and has been this way for several weeks.  I walk by it a lot and totally ignore it.  So, we will finish quilting and get it bound for my goal.20200303_122925

More Pillowcases

I will add 11 more to my donations, bringing my total to 34.  WooHoo.  I like having something I can put together in a few minutes.

A blast from the past and something new

I have been on a mad cleaning rampage in my studio and general area.

In my cleaning, I came across a couple of quilt blocks from a quilt that I made for my niece about 15 years ago.  It was a quilt full of family photo’s mostly of her but a smattering of everyone else.  The blocks were about 8 x 8 and each one had a photo in the center.  The back had Georgia Tech 20200229_164038fabric.  She got it for her college graduation from …..Georgia Tech.  Oh, and yes, I made the Minnie Mouse costume she is wearing.  I used to have a photo album of all the quilts I had made way back then, but they were lost in a flood.  I should ask her for a photo.

The other photo was in my parent’s back yard.  It was a really cute quilt.

20200229_163918So, What is new?  Well, I made myself an ironing station, finally.  I love it.  There is so much storage.  I don’t even have it filled yet (almost).  I love it.  It is fabulous.  A hare but still awesome.  I had been looking everywhere for the right storage and found it at IKEA.  Each set of drawers cost about $53.00.  The top is made out of birch, which I am told can deal with moisture and is very durable.  I hope so.

Some Charity Sewing

I do actually get some sewing done. I have made a few pillowcases for my guild. These 9 bring my total up to 23 pillowcases. The pillowcases go to a shelter for abused women. They get to select a pillowcase and they put some personal care items in them. Some come with nothing, so the pillowcase becomes the first item that belongs to them after their escape.

There was a time in my life when I needed to escape.  I began squirreling money away, a little at a time so it would not be noticed.  Things turned out differently for me and it turned out that I did not need the money.  I still have the account though as a reminder.  Today I save money in that account so Haley and I can go to Europe when she graduates.  Now it has a happy intent.

I am still struggling a bit with my sewing.  I just can’t seem to get much done.  I find myself going from one thing to the next a lot.  I think that is why I made the pillowcases, so I could see something finished.  I do have a baby quilt on the long arm.  I picked up a UFO to work on and I have another one in the works.  I think I need to get back to the “One Monthly Goal” that might help me get in the swing of things.  I will put a reminder on my calendar.

A big thank you to Susan at DesertSky Quilting for mentioning her Uncle Donald Quilt.  It brought such a smile to my face.

Interesting Pattern

This is a pattern I tested for Denise at For the Love of Geese.  I believe she calls it “Twilight”.  I am far from a good paper piecer, however, I love the way this one turned out.  I think I will eventually get the hang of things.  It is mostly fabric I had.  The only thing I purchased was the dark blue grunge border.  I think it has a lot going on.  The blues I used was leftover from a fat quarter pack I think that I got 20 years ago.

20191226_202833I am getting the hang of the longarm.  I still struggle a bit with tension, but I used rulers this time and it came out pretty good.  I am happy with my quilting.  It is starting to look way better.

I do not know what I am going to do with this quilt, I have no plans at this time.  I might just look at it for a while.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Love the new job, although it is kicking my butt.  I am getting too old to learn new things LOL.  I started this post on December 23rd and here we are January 13th.  Jeez, where does time go?  My intent was to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and then the battery on my laptop died and here we are.

Progress…

Sort of an odd-looking block.  I made it from my sister Kellie’s clothes.  I have been looking at the bags of clothes I have that were hers and could not bear cut into them.

I finally did it.  I have four bags and just opened one.  My intent is to make these blocks highlighting something that I remember her wearing.  I hope to put notes in the jeans pockets for my niece and nephew.

Still very hard.  I actually kept a shirt for myself.  I like to wear it because it is hers.  I think these quilts will take a long time to complete.  I will get there.
