A Miracle-I finished a block – I wish you a Merry Quilt Along Block #10

I certainly have not been myself lately.  I seem to get so little accomplished.  Between running around to swim practice and work I hardly have any time to sew.  I do take some hand work to swim.  This past Tuesday I was sitting at  table making flower hexies and a women sat down next to me and started laying them out on the table.  She then proceeded to give me her phone number so I could teach her how to do it.  It was quite funny.  I will always help anyone learn to quilt.

I did manage to finish Block #10 for the I wish you a merry Quilt along.  It was quite a miracle for me to get anything done.  So much to do and next week is Thanksgiving.  I can’t even think about that. It is too much.  I do have a couple of days off, so if I am lucky I will get some sewing time in.  The problem is my mind is going in a million directions for new projects that I really do not need to start.  I have so many started already.  I totally have QADD.

Jingle Bells Jingle Bells…and a Hand Quilt Along

So, last week at my monthly guild meeting, there was  Quilt ship visiting.  Of course, they brought stuff to sell.  I thought this was such a cute pattern and I needed to make it for my door for Christmas.  I will jungle so nicely every time the door is opened.  I liked the fabric they used and just bought the “kit”.m that way I did not have to go out and look for bells I could sew on.   I imagine that I could find them, but this way, I did not have to risk it.20171102_190307_resized

It turned out, that there is quite a lot of fabric left over, so I may make a holiday table topper with it.  I do like the fabric.

At the beginning of the month, I participated in the guilds “Quilt Wars” However, because we all finished at different times, I did not get any pictures.  So at the last meeting they brought all the quilts that were made.  The quilt my group worked is the second from the right.  All these quilted were made with “Miss Rosie’s Quilt Cp.Cake Mix Recipe #4.  If you have never used them, it made creating these quilts super simple.  It calls for layer cakes, but any 10 ” squares will do.  From each recipe you can create multiple designs.  All of these quilts were created from the same cake mix.  Oddly most of came up with the same design.  They are available all over the internet and at my local quilt shop.  All of the quilts from Quilt Wars are finished and donated to Charity.  It was a fun time.

I almost forgot my Hand Quilt Along.  Kathy from Sewing Etc, a=has stqrted this.  I 20170401_135727_resized.jpgcurrnelty have 2 hand sewing projects.  I will have to post a photo of the other one later.  I am currently trying to finish my last and final dog bone dresser scarf.  I refer to them as “Sit on the Couch Projecrs”.  Take a look and Join us.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer…

Had a very red nose in this case.  I like Rudolph.  I might like a quilt with all the reindeer.

I will say that all these pieces were a bit reminiscent of the dog quilt I am working on.  Used a lot of the same methods and tiny pieces, so this one I did not think was all that bad.  I managed to stick with my snow flaked themed fabric.  I think it is coming together nicely.  I find I am really enjoying the “I Wish you A Merry Quilt Along“.

It is never too late to get started.  You can still get links to all the blocks from several places.  Snowy Days Quilting did this block and you can find the link to all others there too.

I Wish You a Merry Quilt Along Block #8

Well, I managed to get something done after my “Hot Tub Incident“.  I didn’t exactly follow the instructions for this block.  I guess I had something else on my mind.  I think it goes well with all my other blocks and I got to use more of my snowflake fabric.

Thank you to everyone for their well wishes.  It was truly appreciated.  A special thank you to Nanette Chopin Cook for calling to check on me.  It really made my day.  Quilters really are the nicest people.

Today was my quilt guilds “Quilt Wars”.  We drew cards to determine what group we were in and were given a bag of fabric.  Then we had to work together to create a top.  It was quite enjoyable.  They will all be quilted and given to charity.  I was so busy I neglected to get any pictures.  I am sure they will bring them to the next meeting.  Glad I felt well enough to attend.  It is good to get out and be with like-minded people.

So, for my One monthly goal, I finally got to work on the test dog block.  I got everything cut out and even started sewing it.

My mind is always wandering to other projects, but I have so many already started, not to mention the holidays are right around the corner.  Must get to work

Surprising that my mess turned into this…

I was not sure that I had a whole lot of hope for this piece.   I thought it might be pretty, 20171001_195117_resized (1) but getting it laid out so the iron on bias tape would cover properly was quite a trick.  It took me more time to lay it out than to sew and bind.

I am pretty sure I had the iron on binding tape for about 15 years.  surprisingly it still worked and stuck when I ironed it on.  It would have looked better with gold metallic but I did not have any.  Seems like there is not much of this stuff around.  Only found a couple of colors at joann.com.  Oddly one of them was gold.  Still looks nice with the yellow.

If Mom was here, I would have finished this into a table topper and taken it to her.  She loved Poinsettia’s.  Each year around the holidays I would always take her the biggest one I could find.  This is going to hang on my front door and every time I look at it, I will think of her.

I might make a table topper for myself.  I would have to use different colors because I would have to use up the bias tape that I have.  Maybe Blue or Pink.  Need to see what kind of fabric I can find that would work.  We shall see.

Something New to try and get out of the Funk and One Monthly Goal

Yes, I know a petal is missing.  This is supposed to be a pointsettia.  I am finding it quite challenging to get it together.  I have laid it out countless tiems today, unsuccesfully.  I a confident that I will get it at some point.  Sometimes challenging things are good.  I have a halloween quilt wall hanging that i want to hang on my front door and I would liek to hang this there too.  However, I need to get it figured out before that can happen.  I will get there.

So, for my One monthly Goal, I need to create a test block for this quilt.  I know it does 20171001_195157_resizednot look like much, but these are such complicated blocks.  I have had the stuff for this quilt for months and I am scared to try and do one of these blocks.

So, this is a special quilt.  All the dogs will be wearing Ohio State Sweaters and I will create a border with Footballs and the block “O”.

For a long time I have been wanting to make someone special to me a quilt, but could not figure out the right design.  It needed the quilt to say Me (crazy Dog Lady) and him, Huge Ohio State Fan.  I think this will come out cute as soon as I can get past my fear of this block with a million pieces.  If it is to difficult, then I am back to ground zero (and I already bought all the fabic).  Hoping it works out.

Block #6 I wish you a Merry Quilt Along

Had to stick with my snowflaked themed fabric.  As crazy as this sounds, all these different colors are from the same piece of fabric.  It started with small snowflakes and the dark purple and changed colors and snowflake sizes about every 14 inches.  I think it goes well with the other blocks.  I thought I had my sashing figured out, but now I am not so sure.  Maybe trying to plan in advance was not such a good idea.  I need to wait a bit longer.  Trying to imagine what the next blcoks will be like.  For Instructions, please visit Sandy Star Designs.

I Wish You a Merry Quilt Along Block #5 Snowman

I am not sure why this block gave me fits, but it certainly did.  I still don’t like how the scarf looks, but I am going to have to live with it.  I have never been interested in making a holiday quilt before.  Not sure why since I was collecting snowflake fabric, but I didn’t have much else.  A few scraps of this and that that I am not even sure where they came from.  I do like these blocks.  I think it will make a cute quilt.  All the tiny pieces certainly did test my patience though.  I had to go back and cut things multipe times becase I lost track  of the pieces.  I now know for sure that one of the quilts I have planned will make me crazy for sure becasue it has a bunch of tiny pieces.  Dredding it already.  Haley gave her seal of approval on the snowman block.  That is a surprise becasue she has something to say about everything.  It does look sort of cute.

Starting to imagine what the other blocks will look like.  I have a couple ideas of things I think we will see.20170916_214220_resized

This past week has not been very production for me from a sewing persepctive.  Lot’s going on in my personal life and then I thought I was catching a cold, which is a no-no when you take biologic drugs for rheumatoid arthiritis.  I think I managed to kill it with Zi-cam, which tastes awful by the way, but it seemed to do the trick.  Hope to get some things done tomorrow.

I wish You a Merry Quilt Along

In Honor of I wish you a Merry Quilt Along

So, Long term, I have been figuring out how I am going to put together this quilt at the end.  I need to keep with my snowflake themed fabric, so I am putting these snowflakes in all the corners of my sashing.  I think all my sashing will be this dark red.  I have done 20170910_144145_resized-e1505246987713.jpgreverse applique on these.  Interesting way to do things.  I think it lets me see more of the snowflake.  I like it.  We will see as I go along.  I think I figured that I will need 20 of these.  They are 5.5 inches square.  better get busy.  Not to mention Block #5, which came out today.    Super cute snowman.  If you need to download the instructions, they are here.  Block #5 was designed by Sherri Shish of Powered by Quilting.  Stay tuned for my Block #5.

Block#4- I wish You a Merry Quilt Along

I finally found a reason to use all my metallic threads.  I have been hanging on to them for quite some time.  My late husband and I owned a commercial embroidery busisness manny moond ago and I am thinking that this is why I have a bunch of metallic thread.  Came out not so bad.  When I put my blocks all together, I do like it.  I am designing my 20170901_204923_resizedsashing, which will involve some snowflakes, somehow.  Must keep with my theme.   Looking forward to the next block.

So, I have been doing a lot of sewing these last couple of days.  I find when I have a lot on my mind, or something bothers me, that I find it soothing an/or comforting to just sit and sew.  The kind of sewing that does not require a lot of thinking.  I have a quilt that I am making that has 72 appliqued blocks.  It is farly simple applique, so I found myslef sitting at the machine for quite some time working on the blocks, trying to group by colors since it is scrappy, and rethreading the machine the least amount of times is best for my eyes.
