Brought a tear to my eye—Happy Pi Day! – Hand Quilt Along and Ruler Work

So, I feel like it has been forever since I have posted anything.  I have been working on a few things (therapy) and practicing with my rulers.

So, the beautiful dog quilt in the photo was sent to me by me dear Friend Nanette Chopin Cook of Chopin – A Passionate Quilter.  We talk and she knew it was a rough couple of weeks for me for a host of reasons.  She sent me this beautiful quilt top.  I can’t wait to quilt it.  It will be all mine.  I have not stopped smiling since I opened the package.  It is certainly going to be the next thing I quilt.  A perfect top for the crazy dog lady.  Gosh I love her.  She is awesome in every way.

My daughter’s school sells Pi day Shirts and every year we get one.  So, Happy Pi Day20180314_063442_resized.jpg from the Nerd squad!  Cow Pi’s bahahaha.

I have been working on my One Monthly Goal, but have changed the direction I am going.  I was going to practice my scalloped border, but instead lost my mind with the new rulers.  Not sure I 20180313_194211_resizedactually like it on here, but it’s too late now.  I am already committed.  It doesn’t look to bad, but I will have a later post on my additional learnings as I continue to figure out ruler work

Epic fail on hand quilting for the HQA.  So sorry.  I will try to get on the path of straight and narrow again.  To see all the beautiful work of those that are not slackers, click on the links below.

  1. Hi Lori, don’t beat yourself up about not getting around to the HQA. There’s only 24 hours in each day and you’re entitled to sleep for part of those 24 hours. I love the dog quilt. I hope you post photos showing how you quilt it. I hope things are starting to look up for you Lori x

  2. Hey Lori I thought I left a comment but it is in never never land now. Thank you for the very gracious and loving words. I see the Doggie now! It may keep you awake when you use it! I am so glad that I sent it to you – it was barking out your name the other day! LOL
You are too sweet! (From one Red Neck to another Red Neck gal!). LOL. Hugs

  3. Hi Lori,
Aww, how sweet is that?!! I love the quilt Nanette sent you, and that is so darn thoughtful of her. Cute picture of you and your daughter, and how fun to celebrate Pi day. Our school sold pie slices after school. Yum! I look forward to hearing about your ruler work! I have been trying to master them and FMQ – they both are my goals for this year. I think your work looks great! Don’t be too critical of yourself – you are just learning it. No one else is going to look at it THAT closely! ~smile~ Roseanne

  4. Don’t know how I found your site, but I am now following.
Firstly – what is Pi day? Very intriguing. Secondly, read a few of your earlier posts on the unimaginable journey you and your daughter have gone through…and are probably still navigating the ‘recovery’ road…so poignant/powerful.
And thirdly, I do enjoy reading your ‘experimental’ quilting process/products/ideas posts! 🙂
I truly wish for you the best.
    peace

    1. Thanks Laura! Pi day as pi the circumference of a circle (3.14). So on 3/14 nerds celebrate pi day. Really an excuse to eat pie. My daughter is still in recovery. She had surgery about a week ago to remove some screws from her arm. All things considered, She is great. Thanks for following me. 🙂
