It seems that I can manage small pieces fairly well. Of course, still not good enough for me. I just want things to go back the way there were about a year ago.
So, this is the second able runner that I made from a scrap pack from my local quilt shop. I bought it for $12.99 and I think I have 2 more table runners from the same pack. I think it was actually a manufacturers sample. Some of them had pinked edges and they were all a pretty standard odd size. Regardless, I like it. It is a little busy looking, but tolerable, I think.
I do like this pattern it is called Jumping Jack. Very simple and easy. I will have to wait to quilt this until I open my black batting. Hopefully soon. I have a quilt I need to get ready for the long arm that requires black batting. Currently, I find using my long arm, very stressful. Since I can’t quite do things the way I want to I become frustrated and don’t want to do it at all. I know, wrong attitude.
I also made this one. I have hung on to a yard of this blue fabric for forever. For some reason I found it beautiful and did not want to use it. Finally did. It was super easy to do and great for using only two colors.
I am learning things every day. At some point I became sensitive to gluten (or so I thought). If I ate it, My heart rate increased to about 130+ for an hour or longer. This made me totally feel like crap. I was not overly thrilled with gluten free bread. It had a weird feel (gritty or something) in my mouth. So, I was unhappy. I constantly wondered why food would be taken from a fat girl. First you take my ability to do a whole lot of anything and then take food away form a fat girl? Come on. If things were not crappy enough. At first we thought it was sugar that was causing the problem. It would be much easier for me to avoid sugar. But no, it was everything I loved.
What I found out after some research was that it may not be gluten, but modern day wheat. So, I researched and found that many people with gluten sensitivity can eat heritage wheat. Heritage wheat? Wheat that was grown a long time ago. Not hybrid to yield more or sprayed with chemicals. I found a company that grows and mills this type of wheat. Sunrise Flour Mill makes just this wheat. I bought a bag. Super expensive $20 plus shipping for 5lbs. I made a loaf of bread and just like magic, I could eat it without the increased heart rate. It was like magic to me. I sat at the table eating bread, dipping it in olive oil in true fat girl style (I can laugh at myself). I have since ordered more and it gets less expensive if you buy bigger bags. his past Friday, we made pizza crust and our own homemade pizzas. It was delicious.
My mother was from Germany. These are one of our favorite things. We called them pretzel blobs, mostly because I think it annoyed my mother. They were (past tense) delicious.
I am actually doing things, just not that much. Have not been feeling myself lately, but who has.
These are gifts. I figured that I needed to get them done. I have a Thanksgiving piece I am working on. Who knows if that will happen. It is just for me, so no big deal if it does not get finished.
I liked the dog and cat prints with Holiday hats. I rarely pass up dog prints. Cats are OK and I did one for my cat loving sister, but I am truly a dog person. Well, actually I am an animal person. I love them all. I am just partial to dogs. Funny, I used to be scared of them. Now I can’t imagine life without them. They are truly my fur babies
I did get the next clue for the mystery quilt, but there will be no more clues until January, so I don’t need to be in a hurry for that one. Phew.
Thanksgiving is next week. I know there is much to be thankful for, but I am just so over things. Here in the great state oh Ohio, we are being told that holiday gatherings are not allowed.
Is covid really spiking? I think we are just testing more so it looks like it is so much worse. Please don’t think that I don’t take it seriously. I just want the actual truth. The media truth which is clearly jaded. What and how thy report seems to depend on what else is going on. Do we need distracted from Politics? Yes, then you are going to die from covid. Is there nothing to report in the world of politics or nothing you want mainstream population to hear, then you will die from Covid.
This is not a political post. I want news that is actually factual news without political bias. Rant over.
We went on vacation, which was good. Some of vacation was for us (beach), then we met up with family. My cousin and his family came from Germany. I have not seen him in some time. It was wonderful seeing them.
So for a couple of days, we went to Ocean City Maryland. We had a great time. I ate crab cakes and crab cakes and crab cakes. I like crab cakes in case you have not guessed.
Then we went on to Washington DC to spend time with my cousin and my sister Karen and her family. We had a great time there too. But there was something missing. My sister Kellie. She was my traveling partner a lot. Before we both married we had a really good time. Even after marriage and children, we managed to sneak a couple trips in. I miss that. I miss her. It just seems wrong. I am wondering why I struggle so much with her death. I have buried two husbands, but this one gets me. I feel like I will never get over it. I find myself not wanting to do anything, but I do.
Yes, you must suffer through my vacation photo’s. I am even in them (I avoid photos like an allergy) LOL.

Oh, and the quilt. So, my most wonderful friend Nanette, sent me a box that had some scraps and a few finished blocks. I made this interesting table runner from it. It is a bit Improv, but I do like the colors a lot.
So, I made this table runner, however, I can not receive full credit. Nanette – doitrightquilter.com sent me a box of miscellaneous items and fabric. These adorable little blocks were in the box. I hung them up on my design wall until I figured out what I was going to do with them. They were just to cute to ignore.
So I arranged them until I had them the way I wanted and sewed them up. I did a small meander for my quilting. Oddly making sure I kept the meandering small and similar in size, was not an easy task. I kept having to check myself to make sure I was not getting bigger as I went along. I used a light variegated thread and I did not quilt any of the prints (except background fabrics). I wanted to give the blocks a bit of a 3-D look. It worked for the most part.
I really enjoyed making this. I am currently working with some other blocks that Nanette sent me. It is sort of like a quilt puzzle. I take what I have and see where it fits together. Thank you Nanette!.
