So, this is my One Monthly Goal project and I decided to not do my normal boring meandering. This is an all over pattern, but I was surprised once it was all done that it did not look to bad.
I always get nervous when I try something that is outside my norm on a quilt. I mean there is the potential of totally screwing up a top that you spent time putting together. I am certainly becoming less intimidated. So, I actually had the angled meandering done a quilt before, but I paid for it. I did not like it all. They kind of did a crappy job. Mine is actually better and I did not have a long arm. Just me and my Bernina free motion quilting. As I was quilting this, I did not think that I would like it. I thought I may have done to much quilting, but once it was complete, it did not look to bad.
I really think that I am Super Klutz. I almost titled this post “Fat Girl Falls Down Part 3”. Saturday morning, I decide to go out to the hot tub. Step up get one foot in and the steps slide out and I fall straight down, one foot still in the hot tub. This time I am straddling the edge. It hurt so bad, that I could not move. I actually chose to fall in. Seemed way better than falling outside the tub, considering it was ten degrees. I survived. I have the blackest bruise I have ever seen, somewhere you really don’t want a bruise. I am starting to think the hot tub is trying to kill me. It is supposed to be helping me.
Happy Sewing
Happy Quilting
😱 Stick to the quilting, I guess! Ouch!!

I’m terrified of free motion quilting so you are doing well to even try it and do it so well. You can be proud of this. As for the hot tub trying to kill you, it sounds like the stairs are trying to tell you they need to be more substantial and well secured. I’m hurting for you. Ouch!

I think you did a good job with that angled quilting. It looks nice. (did you see the child’s drawing I managed…that’s what I get for rushing things). Anyhow, I think it’s time to have a chat with your hot tub and consider how many safety implements you can safely put into that space…That or wear some old shoes right into the tub and keep a dry set on hand for when you get out. I hope that bruise gets better soon.

Lori, do you follow The Inbox Jaunt blog? She’s written a couple of books on FMQ designs and all of her designs are in her blog on the tutorials page. I think you would love it and be very good at the designs. They are designed for a domestic machine too. She says she “detests” the meander so she took it upon herself to learn how to do the cutest designs. Your FMQ turned out very nice and you should be proud of it. 🙂 Ah…your hot tub. I LOL when I read it – and I wasn’t laughing at you but with you because I’ve done it. Dang near castrated myself if that was humanly possible. They make a bar that slides under the tub and stands up as a rail to help you in and out. I highly suggest you get one. They are cheaper than your deductible. 🙂

Our quilting improves with each stitch we take. Nothing is ever perfect, despite first appearances. The more risks we take, the more new motifs we try – over and over again – the better we get. Keep growing!

Have you ever tried quilting using an embroidery hoop (that’s assuming you have an embroidery machine!)

That is a good idea. Thanks!

That’s how I do all my quilting because my back doesn’t let me do much free motion and I don’t have a long arm machine. Should you want some help trying quilting in the hoop contact me.

I’m so sorry your “paid for” quilting didn’t turn out. Your very own free-motion quilting turned out really nice! Way to go. Sad to here that you fell. How dare the hot tub do that to you. Better luck next time! 🙂

Oh, so sorry that paid-for quilt was not done well. I actually do all of my own quilting and I also do not own a long arm machine. Your meandering looks great. Like anything else, free-motion quilting just takes practice. Sometimes I am my own worse critic, too, lol.

Hi Lori,
Oh my goodness!! I am so sorry to hear about your hot tub trying to kill you. That is NOT helpful in the least, and OUCH. Your wording just had me giggling though – I’m sorry but your are too funny. Good for you for getting over the FMQ fear! I need to conquer that myself, or just tell myself I can do it and then do it. ~smile~ Roseanne

Your quilting looks great. Make sure you have a “spotter” from now on when getting in and out of the tub. Gravity is a mean B*tch.
