So, this counts, right? – Hand Quilt Along

Once again, I am apologizing.  I have gotten nearly nothing done.  Both, with sewing/quilting and my personal life.  There is so much going on in my personal life at the moment, I just want to go somewhere dark and warm and sleep for about a week.

For my hand quilting, I did finish the binding on this quilt….  That counts, right?  I do have a piece of embroidery for a quilt, but for some dumb reason I did not take a picture of it.  Next time.  This binding is actually on my One Monthly Goal quilt.

Besides all my personal insanity, Kevin (AKA man-friend) has gout so horribly he can hardly walk.  My little sister is also not well, and honestly, that is just not allowed.  As the older sister, I just want to take it all away for her.  Regardless of her age, she will always be my little sister and damn it, it is not her turn.

  1. Hand sewing binding does count! It’s a time consuming project in and of itself. So don’t beat yourself up about it. I do hope everyone else gets better. Being the oldest in my family I totally understand about wanting to take away all the ugly from the younger siblings. Sending hugs and prayers!

  2. Lori – when will it ever quit? So sorry about your sister, hoping things will work out for her. I am hoping that you can take time to just relax. Things are really swirling around you just too fast and some things just not good! Hugs

  3. Oh Lori,
{{{Hugs}}} a bunch for you and anyone else that might need one. I’m sorry to hear about your sister – that is just not right. I’ll add y’all to my prayers. Who cares about quilting?! Life and our peeps take first precedence over anything related to quilting. And yeah, sewing down a binding sure does count – it gave you a little stress-free time to just sit and enjoy. Sending healing thoughts and prayers your way. ~smile~ Roseanne

  4. It certainly does count, Lori, and Thanks for checking in! Don’t worry about not getting “enough” done, quilting is NOT the most important thing. Sending prayers and hugs for you and yours. ♥️

  5. It seems to me you are doing, and coping, with plenty, so should not be apologising at all. You are the first person I have come across that hand binds (both sides?). I’m so impressed. I want to learn to bind entirely by hand and so my large quilts sit about without binding. I can’t find any tutorials for this on blogs or on Pinterest. For the smaller mini quilts I just use the backing as binding. When you have fewer troubles that need your time and attention, please do a post on how to do it. I’d be so grateful.

      1. Even that is quite a commitment (You’d be crazy to do both sides, right? I don’t know anyone who does but I don’t have machine, so I need to learn) I know how much slower hand stitching is than any non-stitcher imagines. You must be a fast sewer because it takes me a couple of hours to get around a mini quilt. Sending wishes for your sister and husband to feel a little better soon.

  6. It sounds like you are having a bit of a difficult time lately. Your binding is hand-work, so it must count! I’m trying to remind myself that rescuing my children from trials is not good for them – that it’s standing between them and the blessings God has planned for them. That goes for little sisters, too. =) I hope things ease up for all of you, especially Kevin’s pain. I feel such empathy for him.

  7. Dear me, what a lot you’re dealing with! When you have a free moment to yourself, you should do what makes you happy and not worry about deadlines or “should do.” Sending all best wishes to your loved ones!
