So, I have some experience paper piecing. For this block, there were 2 versions. One for beginners and one for someone more advanced. I set out to do the more advances one, but I could not get it to print correctly, so I ended up doing this one, which I actually like better.
So, I had difficulty with this block. I struggled with paper piecing such large pieces. Since I am using scraps (Thank you Nanette), I had to make them fit and found it extremely difficult with the larger pieces of the block. My seam ripper and I became quite good friends. I don’t need those type of friends.
I really do like the Fall quilt along, but have notices that my blocks vary quite a bit in size. I have some that are 13.5 and this one finished at only 12 inches. This will make it very interesting since I am attempting the Quilt as You go method. We will be doing some creative trimming.

Looking good Lori – I recognize some of the fabrics! Glad you are putting them to good use! Hugs

Looks like your doing a great job paper piecing. I recall you were a little hesitant at first. I do understand the difficulties making those scraps fit. My ripper and I are also friendly.

Thanks for the share! it almost looks like to sew on that paper and peel. I have not had a chance to work with “drawing” things out yet. I look forward to when i do.

Yours turned out better than mine! LOL I know my major wrong thing, otherwise it would have worked okay. Not the fault of the pattern. Your colors are great. I have difficulty making things off grain – I mean I forget I cam turn the piece so it will fit the design, and doesn’t have to be on grain.

I love the block! And as for the sizing….our fearless leader in Quilt Club says….”stretch it and mush it!” LOL Regardless of the block sizes, your quilt is going to be stunning!

Hi Lori! I just LOVE all the leaves I have seen paper pieced. Yours is fab – we would never know you had any trouble. I have not paper pieced in years, but this paper may just tempt me to do so sooner than later. Happy Wednesday to you! ~smile~ Roseanne

Your Leaf block in orange/reds is so pretty Lori.
I have had some blocks turn out plus and minus 12 1/2” too. There are so many reasons this happens I think. Creative trimming is a good solution! 😋

This is a very different but very, very nice fall leaf block! Suggestion for remedying the various sized blocks difficulty: Sew frames around all the blocks, bringing all of them to a common size, like 15 1/2.” You could choose two frame colors and alternate using them once you decide how to lay out the blocks in your quilt.
