Sarcasm is running amuck…..amuck…amuck…amuck…

I finally found a use for flannel.  Yeah.

I do say that with a hint of sarcasm.  I like flannel, just not in quilts.  Then why do I have so much?  Good question.  Maybe I just can’t pass up a sale.  Ohhhh, that is very likely.  Don’t get me wrong, I have made a  few flannel quilts with scraps.  They came out fine.  I just feel that by the time I am done, the fuzz on flannel looks dirty.  I know, weird.  But I do like these cute receiving blankets made with flannel.  Super simple and cute.  I would like to make them a bit larger, which I will work on for the next one.

20180414_085845-1.jpgThis past Saturday our guild had a quilt in.  Name tags with your name or your code name.  Hah!  Well, I could not help myself.  The sew-in was fun.  They had someone teaching free motion quilting, or you could just work on whatever you wanted to.  I took my $11.99 Bernina and sewed up a storm.  It was a rainy Saturday in Ohio, so it was perfect for sewing and I won a door prize.  $25.00 gift certificate to a local quilt shop.  WooHoo!

  3. Showing off your $12 find at the guild! I bet they were as envious as I am 🙂
    I too had an issue with flannel – which I appeared to be just collecting in order to test how much dust it could accumulate. I used a bunch of it pieced together for backs (because of course I only 1 – 2 yard piece of flannel) and I stopped buy it – so that has helped…a little 🙂

    2. I just got some more flannel…I don’t even try to collect this stuff(except when needed for design walls or little girls nightgowns). The nieces are no longer little and I’m making them quilts. That flannel is so soft and pretty I thought it make a great pieced back for my next quilt;-).

  4. That’s like Christmas fabric to me. I don’t buy it or anything, it just appears out of nowhere!
    Glad you had fun at your sew in. I go to those sometimes, and bring an oddball machine, just because I can!

  5. My mom used to make baby blankets with two pieces of coordinating flannel. They were the width of the flannel square, so about 40×40 after she sewed them, the. She did a crocheted edge around them with a very simple design. She must have made 2 or 3 for each girl and countless other babies. So, if you want to get rid of them fast, sew two together and add a trim around the edge, sewn on or crocheted. They will become coveted gifts!
    I bet everyone was oohing and aahing over your great find!

  6. I also have a lot of flannel and sew with it a lot. Make patchwork big shirts and baby quilts and my favorite ragtime that I use daily all winter. They are messy to sew with but love the softness. Very stretchy though. Looks like you are on a winning streak!

  8. We’ve all been hit by that “sale” bug. Comes with the territory I guess. I’ve used flannel on the back of a quilt and had great luck. So soft. Way to go $11.99 sewing machine. Such a bargain. 😊

  10. Sounds like a great day! I love sew days and haven’t been to one in forever, beyond the 2 hour mornings on Thursdays with one or two friends. Since you didn’t report any problems, I’m guessing that machine worked wonders for you!
