Some Progress here and there and a Liebster Award?

20170612_115154_resizedWell, I ignored “My one Monthly Goal for the weekend”, since I was mad at this project.  Finally got back to it on Sunday and things went better.  No more crazy Loops.

Did a little bit of my English Paper piecing while lounging on the couch.

Did some cutting for a couple of projects in the works.  Once is for my daughter.  I would tell you all about it, but she is nosey and occasionally reads my blog in hopes that I mention her.  Hello Haley. Lol.

Tracy from It’s a T-Sweets Day nominated me for a Liebster award.

What is the Liebster Award?

The Liebster Award is an award that exists only on the internet, and is given to bloggers by other bloggers. The earliest case of the award goes as far back as 2011. Liebster in German means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.  For a link to the rules please see The Golden Aussie.

As  a nominee, I am to list 10 facts about myself”

1.) I am a widow twice.  Working on getting my own show on the ID channel.

2.) I was not supposed to have any children, yet my daughter was born 4 weeks before my 40th birthday

3.) I have an MBA in executive management (boring).

4.) I am the crazy dog lady.  I have four and have rescued many including multiple large batched of puppies.

5.) I love sports.

6.) I love to cook.  Kevin got me Gordon Ramsay cooking lessons for my birthday.

7.) I used to be foster parent to teen age boys

8.) I have three sisters.

9.) I am honest to point that it sometimes gets me in trouble.

10.) I have a fabric store in my utility room (not really, just enough to have one though)

My nomination for this award comes from the very talented Tracy from Tracy @It’s a T-Sweets Day.   As a nominee, Tracy has asked me 10 questions.  They are as follows:

  1. How did you get started quilting or sewing or crocheting? – My grandmother.  When I was young 6 or seven, I would sit at her sewing machine and sew together all the sample fabrics she got from Blair’s clothing.
  2. If you could have one present, what would it be? To have my husband Derrick back.  I miss him so much.
  3. What is your favorite sewing tool? – I have an Aldo Quilt Cut, which is very helpful.
  4. What has been your favorite blog post? That is a hard one.  I would say anything that has a finish in it.
  5. Who has been your inspiration? All the women in my life.  My mother who left her family behind to come to America and my Grandmother.  Both survived World War II in Germany.
  6. What is your favorite food? – Unfortunately, I love them all. A favorite would be German food.  It reminds me of Mom
  7. When do you blog? Weird times, whenever I can.
  8. Did your mother sew? No, but she got a sewing machine so we could do things and Home-ec for school.
  9. What makes a perfectly SWEET day at your house? No drama
  10. What advice would you give to future sewer/bloggers? Not one of us started out getting it all right.  It does take practice and patience.  Great friends can be made through blogging.

I have to admit, learning about Tracy was interesting.  I sometimes picture what I think someone looks like or imagine what age they are.  I was certainly wrong.  For some reason I thought Tracy was much younger than myself.  Like in her 30’s.  I was wrong.  She must be young at heart for sure. Great minds think alike.

  4. I loved reading this, Lori. My mother also came from Germany (with me in tow) after the war and finally being able to marry my dad. I have her old Pfaff here that I am finally ready to put back in service. She was an excellent seamstress. Someone nominated me this morning as well but I never accept awards. I think they make me nervous. 😦 I do love reading all the information though. I saw all your fabric in the above photo and wanted to get my hands in the middle of it. It looks just yummy. I agree, when a project isn’t going well, walk away and come back later. It always works better then. Have a wonderfilled week. Marlene

    1. My older sister was born there. My parents got married in Germany, after my sister was born. They came to the states when she was about 3. My father was stationed over there. I still have family there and have been a few times. It is very much part of who I am. Sounds like we have similar backgrounds. Thanks for taking the time to read it..

    2. I have to jump in here – My (American) parents took me to Germany when I was a few months old – Dad was in the Army there. I was only there for a year or so, but I feel a real connection. I took German in high school for 4 years. I also have German Christmas ornaments my mom bought there that I hang on the tree every year.

      1. Hi, Jodie, I do understand what you are saying. My dad was there several times during his career and felt more at home than in Kansas City. We actually took half his ashes and sprinkled them in the Rhine. The other half are at the Military Cemetery in the St, Louis area. He spoke better German than my mother after 50 years away from there. She never wanted to go back. Too many bad memories. I took German for one year but never learned the grammar well. After 3 weeks back, all the words come back though. Last visit was 2006. Miss it a lot. Have you been able to go back?

      2. I have not been back since the 90’s. I want to take my daughter there some day. My mother would go about every other year for 6 weeks when I was growing up to visit her family. I have horrible grammar when it comes to German also. My dad did not speak much German. I found it odd when I was young because my mother did not speak English when they met. Actually when my sister came to the states she only knew German. Still have family there, so I have a place to stay.

      3. Hi – This is to INSEARCHOFITALL – is your name Marlene? My daughter is Marlena. Very close. I cannot say I have much memory of my high school German at this point in my life – I do know it helped me when I went there after college. That was the last time I was there. – And I agree – whether it be bookkeeping, gardening or writing, if it isn’t working – just step away and come back later.

    1.) Who inspired you to quilt/sew – My Grandmother. Her sewing room was a magical place.

    2.) If you could meet one person you have never met , who would it be? – John Irving. i saw him speak once, but was too shy to go up and say hi afterwards.

    3.) What was the last movie you saw in the theater?- Sponge Bob Square Pants. I just went because my twins wanted to see it. I hate movie theaters.

    4.) What kind of music do you like? – I LOVE any music that makes me obsessed with listening to it. Right now, it is “Wish I Knew You” by The Revivalists

    5.) what is your favorite quilt/sewn project/craft. – I think it’s the first quilt I ever made.My daughter asked me to make it – and I would do 10 things differently if I did it again, but it got me started.

    6.) What is your favorite candy bar? Butterfinger, Snickers, Heath Bar, M & M Peanuts – I can’t choose just one.

    7.) Hand quilt or machine quilt? – Machine – but not one of those big, automatic ones.

    8.) What is your favorite color? Teal

    9.) what id your favorite quilting/crafting item? My family gave me a Cricut Cutting Machine for Christmas and it has turned me into Wonder Woman.

    10.) Do you work on one project or many. – Many, many, messy, messy. I don’t know why I do that.
